The infant mental health journey

Welcome friend!

My mental health journey, parenting, being a Dad and why I work to be my best self.

Self Worth Beyond Birth is a space to explore how we can best support our children and the children in our care in becoming their best selves. We’re not talking about being clever or skilled, but something more fundamental. The fact is that poor mental health is becoming more common. According to the Australian institute of health and wellness (source), "in Australia alone, 1 in 5 people have experienced a mental disorder in the past 12 months, 5% of the population is estimated to have a severe mental illness, and most frightening of all is 1 in 7 4-17-year-olds have experienced mental illness in the past 12 months." These numbers don’t surprise me, but they do break my heart. Through my ongoing mental health journey, I know that finding the right resources at the right time is life-changing. And that’s why I’m here, and I’m guessing why you’re here too. I’ve known Robyn since I was a teenager, and now 20 years on, I’m a father of 2 and doing my best to be the Dad, Husband, Friend and Creative person I can be.

When Robyn shared her e-book with me, I got so much out of it and out of her that I wanted to develop it further. Turn her philosophy into a movement. Since 2021 we’ve been working together to build a course and resources to give us the skills to equip our kids with the tools they need to have a strong sense of self and robust mental health from day 1.

Let's walk this path together.

Closing thoughts

I've suffered from panic attacks and depression since primary school, but it wasn't until I went through my first significant break-up at the age of 20 that the wheels fell off, and I went to seek professional help. Since then, I've had many ups and downs and have stayed interested in becoming the healthiest and most potent version of myself.

When did mental health become significant enough to you to focus on it?
